Another beautiful view of the northwoods with a man in saftey orange vest   Our business starts with the short growing seasons in northern Wisconsin, which produce a fine grained stock that dresses to perfection. Our logging and stumpage buying controls further the quality of the raw material shipped to our facilities.
Once at our facilities, logs are sawed with our Cleereman carriage McDonough double cut band mill, which produces 5,000,000 board feet annually.   our Cleereman carriage McDonough double cut band mill
Graded lumber being processed   Then, the lumber is graded by National Hardwood Lumber Association trained graders. Low grade lumber is now ready for sale, and the remaining lumber continues in the procurement process.
To meet production needs, North Country Lumber increases inventory by purchasing additional grade 2A and better lumber at this point in the process.

We purchase 5,000,000 board feet of northern hardwood green lumber annually from other mills that meet our high standards.
Here comes another load of quality green lumber on our truck
Graded lumber in the predryer   Immediately following grading or purchasing, all 2A and better lumber is placed on sticks for drying.

Once on sticks, our Northern Red Oak lumber is transported to our 400,000 board feet capacity predryer for quality control. All other lumber on sticks goes directly to the kiln.

Lumber is dried in our American Wood dry kilns designed for the tough task of drying white hard maple. Our dry kilns are operated by a modern computer system, which controls reduction of moisture content in hardwood to 6-8%.   Our dry kilns
